Aneurin Bevan Health Board

Aneurin Bevan Health Board

On 1st October 2009, seven new health organisations were created as part of a reorganisation of the National Health Service in Wales.  Each single local health organisation is responsible for delivering all healthcare services within a geographical area.  Aneurin Bevan Health Board replaces the former Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust and Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen Local Health Boards.  Aneurin Bevan Health Board was established in shadow form on 1st June 2009 and became fully operational on 1st October 2009.

Aneurin Bevan Health Board is responsible for the delivery of health care services to more then 600,000 people living in the Gwent area.  The Health Board is also responsible in partnership for improving the health and well being of local people.

Aneurin Bevan Health Board delivers its services to the populations of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.  There are three major hospitals and a range of community hospitals in the area.  There is also a range of specialist health centres, local clinics and primary care facilities providing medical, dental, pharmacy and optometric services along with facilities providing mental health and learning disability services.

More than one thousand hospital and general practitioner doctors and six thousand nurses, allied health professionals and community based staff deliver services to our local communities.

Information about Aneurin Bevan Health Board can be found on this website: www.aneurinbevanhb.wales.nhs.uk and on the Local Health Information pages for Blaenau Gwent Locality
