Language and Play (LAP) and Number and Play (NAP) are short programmes funded by Basic Skills Cymru and Flying Start for parents and carers in Wales who have children aged 0-3 years. The LAP programme aims to share ideas and activities over six sessions and the NAP programme over five sessions.

The main aims of these programems are

  • to improve literacy and numeracy development of children in their Early Years.
  • to familiarise parents/carers and young children with Welsh phrases, rhymes, songs and sharing books.
  • to encourage and explore communication and methods of play.
  • to develop parent/carer confidence in their ability to support their child's Early Years development.
  • to prepare children for learning when they start school through developing their social and fine motor skills.
