What are Breast Feeding Peer Supporters?

  • Mothers who have Breast Fed their babies
  • Completed the Breast Feeding Peer Counsellor Training
  • Keen to help other mothers to breast feed their Babies
  • Work in a Voluntary Capacity within their community
  • Make time available to Volunteer

A Breast Feeding Peer Supporter:

  • Has a commitment to the work and is Reliable
  • Is happy to work together as part of a Team
  • Understands and is able to keep Confidentiality
  • Is Comfortable with Mum-to-Mum approach
  • Is a good listener, Friendly and interested in People
  • Is Caring and Accepting of all Mothers, whatever their background or situation
  • Has a recommendation from a worker in the Breast Feeding Field
  • Is willing for a CRB check on her

Peer Support Training

  • The training will be at Brynteg Youth Centre, Ebbw-Vale
  • It will be a 2hr session once a week for 12wks (excluding school hols)
  • The training will cover the basics of breastfeeding, how to recognise a problem and the best way to offer support
