Births, Bumps and Babies (Teen Support)

The teenage support group provides a support network for teenage parents living in Blaenau Gwent. These sessions are delivered on a weekly basis at the Heart of the Valleys Integrated Children’s Centre, Blaina on Tuesday, at 1.30pm-3.00pm. (Transport available if required).

Teenage antenatal support is also available on Tuesdays at 11-12 pm at the Blaina ICC and on Fridays at 11-12 pm at Action Learning Centre, Ebbw Vale.

During the session a Health Professional/Midwife will give support, professional advice and information on being pregnant and becoming a parent. Topics covered include:
· Your health in pregnancy/antenatal
· How your body develops
· Feelings and relationships
· Feeding your baby
· What you will need for your baby
· Labour and birth
· Rights and benefits
· Exercise in pregnancy
· Common complaints in pregnancy
· Contraception

On going peer support and professional Health advice is continued following birth is available at teen baby Group, many topics are covered, which involves:
· Parenting,
· Healthy Eating/ Nutrition
· Dental Health
· Establishing Routines
· Accident Prevention
· First Aid for Babies
· Breast Feeding Support via trained counsellors
· Family Planning/ Relationships
· Sexual Health
· Self Esteem / Confidence building.

The opportunity to obtain OCN Qualifications in the above topics is provided, supported by Creche facilities.
