A Parent's Story

I felt that I really needed some help and guidance of how to handle my daughter’s behaviour. I felt like I was out of control, so I decided to attend a parenting programme. I approached the Nursery Teacher at my child’s school, requesting support with managing behaviour. She gave me the telephone number for the Parenting Team.

I attended the Incredible Years parenting programme, which was delivered by Cath from the parenting team. It has benefited us in so many ways. It has given me the confidence to deal with my daughter’s challenging behaviour. My house is much calmer, which has made our family life so much better. My husband is also using the strategies discussed in the group, so we both feel more in control.

Would I recommend this course to anyone else? – YES everybody! All parents should do this programme as part of their ante natal course. When people have children they are sent out of hospital not knowing what to do, but this programme gives you all the advice and guidance for dealing with your child’s behaviour.

I think this programme is fantastic! It’s life changing, as long as you are prepared to listen to the advice from other parents and the facilitators and you also need to do the activities at home.

I am having another baby in October – so I would love to do the Incredible Years Infant programme!
