Disabled Young People

If you are disabled, you may face challenges and be unable to do some of the things that other people can do. But life can still be as fun and full of personal achievement!

Being a young person can be tough enough without being disabled, so it may seem tougher than what other people face. Everyone wants to fit in and it can be easy to feel alone, but there's loads of support out there for you.

Up until now, your parents or carers have probably made all your decisions but now you may be able to start making some choices for yourself. A good education can improve your chances later in life, education is important for yourself.

Just because you are disabled in some way, doesn't mean you can't live a full and exciting life. Aim high and you'll achieve!

GUIDEThere are many different sorts of disabilities

  • You may use a wheelchair
  • You may be hearing or speech-impaired (can't hear or speak very well)
  • You may have a learning disability

If you have a disabled friend or relative, try and see things from their point of view. Chances are they don't want your sympathy, but rather you to just understand.

GUIDEIf you are disabled

If you are disabled, think about joining a club or group where you can chat to other people with similar difficulties.

If you are feeling down, or there are things your school could do to make it a better place for you to be, tell someone. Your school council may be able to help you with school issues.
