Engage Project

The Engage Project
The engage project was devised to engage young people aged 11 – 18 who are deemed to be disengaged, in positive activities through a reward system. The core purpose of the Engage Project is to release potential in a young person and so to enable co operation with community groups and through doing so become a valued part of that framework.
The reward scheme consists of a membership card given at the point of referral on to which points can be awarded to the young persons for demonstrating core values i.e discipline, good behaviour and team work during projects. Points can be taken away for unacceptable behaviour. The points can be utilised to purchase items in certain shops and within the Blaenau Gwent leisure facilities.
Personal development plans are developed alongside the project work to enable the young person to enter into a contract which will enable them to develop both personally and socially. Reward points can also be earned as a result of this contract.
The young people are expected to actively participate in community projects in order to earn reward points. The purpose of this engagement is to show young people the value of community and how it prospers by development. One of the benefits of the projects is to allow members of the community to see groups of young people participating and giving back.
A further benefit is the development of new skills and abilities in young people and the growth of ownership of the venture to enable a feeling of citizenship
