Rathbone Cymru
Rathbone is a UK-wide voluntary youth sector organisation providing opportunities for young people to transform their life-circumstances by re-engaging with learning, discovering their ability to succeed and achieving progression to further education, training and employment.
What we believe
Our philosophy and our approach to working with young people today come directly from our founder Elfrida Rathbone who believed that everyone, whatever their starting point in life, can make progress through learning.
We believe passionately that Elfrida’s vision at the start of the twentieth century, remains true at the beginning of the twenty-first!
Our fundamental belief is unchanged. Given the right opportunities all young people can learn, can succeed, can make real progress in their lives and become great adult citizens. We know that to be true because we have the evidence of the success of our young people to prove it.
Rathbone’s young people often face some of the greatest challenges in our society. We aim to recognise the potential in every individual young person that we work with and enable them to develop and achieve a plan for learning which is a real launch pad for a positive future.
Why we change lives
We change lives because we see every challenge facing a young person as an opportunity for success. We think that a past history of low attainment is the basis of a plan for positive achievement.
We know that anti-social behaviour can be turned into the model behaviour of active and engaged young citizens. We know too that every young person involved in the youth justice system can be a major contributor, a volunteer doing great things in their community and a positive role model for others.
Our staff work with all of our young people on a basis of mutual respect. Rathbone is a place where young people are supported, encouraged and challenged in every way possible to make the best of themselves.
