Healthy Eating

Eating too much junk food - this isn’t good fuel to give you more energy?

Feeling bad about yourself and your weight?

Getting lazy and avoiding exercise and putting on weight?

Here;s some tips...

  • Healthy eating is about having a varied, balanced diet and enjoying lots of different foods.
  • A healthy diet includes: bread, potatoes, cereals, pasta, rice or noodles and at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, dairy produce like milk or yoghurt, lean meat and fish (or nuts, tofu or lentils for vegetarians).
  • Don't add extra salt to food.
  • Explain to your mum, dad or carer that you want to be as healthy as you can, and get them involved in a healthy eating plan too!
  • Take regular exercise. If you are worried ask your mum, dad or carer to make you an appointment with your Doctor.

“ I like to go food shopping with my mum - I help her pick out healthy foods I enjoy eating.”

Food is burned in our bodies to create energy. If we don't use it, we become overweight! A healthy diet makes you feel and look good. It keeps your weight stable and lowers your risk of developing cancer, heart disease or diabetes later.

It might be quick and easy to fill up on processed foods like crisps, chips and chocolate and fast foods like burgers and pizzas but these are bad for you as they’re high in saturated fat, salt and sugar. Plan them as an occasional treat instead.
Eating healthily is all about making simple changes to your diet. Start by trying to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables - aim to eat at least five portions a day.

You may find that at this time in your life you do put on a little weight – this is normal. Being overweight is not healthy, it can make you feel bad about yourself and it can affect your health. Try to get all the family involved! As well as a healthy diet it is important to take regular exercise too
