What is domestic abuse?
Domestic abuse is when one person threatens, is violent to or abuses (emotionally, financially or sexually) another person they live with, are in a relationship with or were going out with.
Have you been affected by domestic abuse at home?
Children & young people can experience domestic abuse by;
?Seeing the violence/abuse
? Hearing the violence/abuse
?Witnessing the outcome– physical cuts, bruises or the emotional impact
?Getting physically hurt as a result of intervening or getting ‘caught up’ in an attack
?Being deliberately hurt by the abuser to upset the victim
You may also experience abuse within your own relationship!
Domestic abuse at home may make you feel
Worried, Scared, Sad, Helpless, Confused, Shamed, Lonely, Isolated, Stressed, Not confident, Guilty, nsecure, Cant trust people, Resentful towards parent(s), Tired, Lack of concentration at school, Manipulated, Moody
- Things to remember
You are not to blame for what is happening at home
- Keep safe - don't try to stop violence if it is happening
- Know how to ring the police/ an ambulance or family member if you are really scared or frightened
