The Blaenau Gwent and Heads of the Valleys National Eisteddfod is held at The Works, Ebbw Vale from 31 July to 7 August 2010.

This is the first time that the Eisteddfod has been held in the area for over half a century, when Ebbw Vale was home to the festival in 1958.

The old steelworks on the outskirts of the town is home to the Eisteddfod this time, a site which plays an integral role in both local and national industrial history. The site is accessible by car, foot and by public transport, and less than a 45 minute journey from the centre of Cardiff

If you're interested in staying on the caravan site or if you'd like to volunteer as a steward at the 2010 Eisteddfod, download the document on the right and return to gwyb@eisteddfod.org.uk.

Maes B

Since it started in Bala at the 1997 National Eisteddfod, Maes B has provided a stage for a new generation of musicians, marking an important change in the Welsh music scene, which has grown into the flourishing scene we know today.

Celebrating the best of Welsh talent, Maes B is the ideal mix of our eclectic and exciting music scene, attracting over 10,000 visitors and over 40 bands during the week.

Maes C

Maes C is the perfect place to enjoy the Eisteddfod atmosphere in the evening over a pint or two, offering an eclectic mix of poetry, music and much more.

With the ability to combine new and fresh acts with real blasts from the past, Maes C is the place to go to enjoy the best on offer in Wales in a relaxed and chilled atmosphere - without forgetting the late bar every night.

Maes D

Want to learn Welsh?  This is the place to be!

Maes D is a pabell fawr - big tent with lots of activities for everyone who's learning Cymraeg.  Come on in, say 'Shwmae' and find out about learning Welsh!

Want to help out?

Fancy giving us a hand?  We need lots of volunteers to help in the tent:  welcoming visitors, chatting in Welsh and helping in the cafe.

If you'd like to help please contact Jo Knell, Cymraeg Development Officer

Welsh Learner of the Year competition

Every year the highlight of Maes D is the Welsh Learner of the Year competition.  The competition is open to any adult who has learned Welsh.  If you've learnt Welsh what about giving it a go?  Or you could nominate someone else.

Judges:  Robat Powell, Roy Noble and Donna Edwards

Closing Date:  31 March 2010

Other competitions for Welsh learners

There are performance competitions and written competitions for people learning Welsh.  Are you good at telling jokes or stories?  Do you enjoying singing in a choir?  Or what about recitation?  All the competitions are fun!

Children and families

There's a whole range of activities available for children of all ages at the National Eisteddfod.  The first weekend is particularly aimed at children and families.

10,000 children in the Blaenau Gwent and Heads of the Valleys area have already received an activity book, full of information about the Eisteddfod and lots to do.
