New Doorstep Opportunities for Hard-to Reach Young People.

Street games develops doorstep sport in local communities making it accessible to all young people regardless of their social circumstances. There is no “one-size-fits-all” solution and each session is designed with the community and participants in mind.

Target Groups and Key Benefits

Street Game sessions aim to target young people who:

  • Live in disadvantaged areas
  • Do not have access existing sporting opportunities in their everyday lives
  • Are not initially interested in traditional sport or community clubs but DO want to become active in alternative sport based on the traditional games.
  • Have the potential to lead/coach sessions in their own community

Key Benefits include:

  • Sporting opportunities, directed by the community, to engage more people in additional sporting activities, more often, in accessible venues to them.
  • Coach, Volunteer and NEET exit route programmes.
  • Direct links to employment via franchise and social enterprise.
  • Direct Impact on Government Objectives; such as anti social behaviour, community safety, the health agenda, developing skills, adult education and local employment

Activities

Some of the activities include;

  • Rugby League (in conjunction with Celtic Crusaders)
  • Rugby Union (in conjunction with Gwent Dragons)
  • Netball
  • Football
  • Handball
  • 3 v 3 Basketball
  • Ultimate Frisbee

Examples of set Street Games sessions are;

  • Street Dance
  • Street Cheer
  • Street Gym/Parkour
